The Catamount Trail (802/864-5794, www.catamounttrail.org), is 300 miles of cross country skiing and snowshoeing the length of Vermont. The trail winds its way through Vermont from the Massachusetts border to the Canadian border offering opportunities for every type of skiing including backcountry, xc ski areas, farmlands, and old logging roads. The trail is well maintained and open to the public.

The Catamount Trail Association is a non-profit member driven organization that develops, manages, and conserves the Catamount Trail building partnerships to support the trail, and fosters awareness and stewardship of Vermont's diverse landscapes through promotion and use of the Trail. The organization was founded in 1984 and the members, who are the backbone of the Catamount Trail Association (CTA) come from all over North America. The CTA organizes approximately 50 guided ski tours and numberous annual events. Membership dues and donations provide more than 70 percent of the CTA's operating costs and are the key to achieving its mission.

The trail has 31 sections each with a volunteer trail chief. The land crosses private land (200 landowners) and public land including the Green Mountain National Forest, Vermont state land, and town owned parcels. There is a full range of xc ski and snowshoe opportunities for different levels of skill. These sections also have varying routes and remoteness so plan ahead and be aware of the weather.
